Sea Shanties

Music is what feelings sound like.  ~Author Unknown

So, I'm researching sea shanties right now for a research paper.  I LOVE it.  It's quite amazing - I'm considering just diving right into it and making it part of my masters thesis.  Quite fun!

Pink - Please Don't Leave Me

Listening to this on the radio today, I realized, sadly, this is very much me.  So I am sorry.  Please forgive me for who I am.

I don't know if I can yell any louder,
How many times have I kicked you out of here?
Or said something insulting?

Da da da da da

I can be so mean when I wanna be,
I am capable of really anything,
I can cut you into pieces,
When my heart is, broken.

Da da da da da

Please don't leave me [x2]
I always say how I don't need you
But it's always gonna come right back to this
Please don't leave me

How did I become so obnoxious,
What is it with you that makes me act like this,
I've never been this nasty,
Can't you tell that this is all just a contest?
The one that wins will be the one that hits the hardest,
But baby I don't mean it,
I mean it, I promise

Da da da da da

Please don't leave me [x2]
(Don't leave me)
I always say how I don't need you
But it's always gonna come right back to this
Please don't leave me

I forgot to say out loud,
How beautiful you really are to me,
I can't be without,
You're my perfect little punching bag,
And I need you,
I'm sorry.

Da da da da
da da da da

Da da da da da

Please, please don't leave me
Baby, please don't leave me (no, don't leave me)
Please don't leave me
(I always say) I always say how I don't need you
But it's always gonna come right back to this

Please don't leave me, (Yeah)
Please don't leave me
(I) I always say how I don't need you,
But it's always gonna come right back to this,
(Please, Please) Please don't leave me,
Baby, please, please don't leave me.

Happy (almost belated) Easter!

I'm sorry I've pretty much fallen off the face of the earth.  Much awesomeness is happening, however.

1.  Working on a commissioned art piece.  It's only in the ink stage, but looks pretty awesome.

2.  Hanging out a lot with my next door neighbor - who is 10 years younger - and having a blast.  I usually take her to school with me when I sub, which is funny.  If I sub during A lunch, now I've been told I need to sit with the students (ie, her and her friends) so I have people to hang out with that are 'cool'.  (A-lunch teachers are rather clique-ish)

3.  Staying ahead of the game for schoolwork so far.

4.  Only going to campus twice a week, leaving three days to sub. (!!!!)

5.  Looooooving going to the chiropractor.  You have no IDEA just how much better I feel now.

6.  Spending a lot of time with my little bundles of fur.  I love them so very much, and they make me so very very happy.

7.  TRYING to find time to perhaps drive up and visit Beth and Nick for a weekend - when all three of us are available at the same time.  (hahahahaha)

8.  Just running a lot of errands here and there

9.  And, to finish, I destress by returning to #1 in this list. ;)

Toodles!

Squeeee!

Guess whaaaaaaaaat!  Guess what guess what guess what!

I got an A in my Latin American class, and I got an A- in my American Lit class!  Eeeee!

Rest in Peace

I am just posting to let you all know that my uncle passed away this morning from pancreatic cancer.  He was in excruciating pain all night long, so while it hurts that he is gone, he is no longer in pain.

Below is what my aunt posted on the caring bridge site today:

Gary's journey here is over. He went into the arms of his gaurdian angels earlier today. I want to again thank everyone for the unrelenting prauers and thoughts for our family. Please continue them as we go this difficult time.
Tentatively the plans are to have visitation on Tuesday at Heady at Resthaven (Bardstown Road in Fern Creek) and the funeral service Wednesday at St Bernard Catholic Church in Highview. I will give more details later.
Again thanks so much and if you love someone, tell them today.
     God Bless you all.
Linda

If you need me over the next several days, you'll need to call me on my cell phone, and likely leave me a message.  I'll then call you back when I see I had a call or I'm able to talk.

Doors and Floors

So I walked into the library today.  Bleh.  I dislike libraries, esp the local ones.  Well, the inner door was propped open, like it usually is, so I walked through it.  Until it realized it was an automatic handicapped door, and decided to close on me as I walked in.  Hit me square in the side of the head and down my side.  My head is STILL throbbing.

Stupid doors.

Only I...

... could get another bout of poison oak to my feet in the beginning of March, and by wearing an old pair of shoes.  This, my dear friends, is talent.  Much like running into walls or tripping over flat surfaces.

Update 3-7-10

My uncle is now in the hospital because he has blood clots in both of his legs.

Ta Da!

Won't chat long, just an update.

Had a grad student meet'n'greet today in the grad office, then had a presentation by Sylvia, then moved the party over to Madeline and Zach's house.  It was tons of fun.  Almost everyone brought a six-pack to the party, and amusingly enough it was all gone three hours later.  (I only had one, then a few cups of coca-cola.)  A prof also added some vodka to the mix, I believe, when he came.  I know at the very least he brought more beers for people, haha.  I got to meet their kitteh, Tiger, and he spent almost the entire evening in my general area, following me around.  He even meowed at me when I wouldn't pay attention, which he didn't do to other people.

He was cute and fuzzy and had kitten fur still.  He is probably two or three months younger than frick and frack here.  I also have bite and claw marks all over my arms from where he was 'playing'.  He was a cutie.

Also, if you guys know anyone in the northern Kentucky, southern Indiana, or SW Ohio area that can take one to three cats into their homes, please let me know.  A friend of mine is getting a divorce, and without a job or income of any sort, she cannot keep them.  I think the dog is accounted for, but she still has three cats that need a good home.  With four cats in our house, we can't take any more in.  I can't afford more, and besides, we're already two cats over the limit for our neighborhood.  (2 cat 2 dog max rule)

So if anyone can take 1, 2, or 3 (which would be the best!) please let me know.  We both want to make sure they get good homes.

I'm already posting more!

But don't expect too much of an update.  I have a sore on my jaw that is being obnoxious, but besides that, all I'm doing is work for school.  I have a presentation and a paper due on Thursday, and (an easy) five questions to do for my class on Wednesday.  But I'm currently more interested in sleep and the Olympics than diehard studying.  I have three more days before class again, though, so I have time.  Theoretically.

However, at the moment, I have a song stuck in my head.  It's been stuck in my head since the middle of the month, since that is when I heard the song a lot with the upcoming Valentine's day and all.  I love the sound and the rhythm of the music, and I've been humming it before I catch myself.  I've not heard it in years until it was on the radio a lot this month.  So here it is, and enjoy.

She's Always A Woman
Billy Joel

She can kill with a smile
She can wound with her eyes
She can ruin your faith with her casual lies
And she only reveals what she wants you to see
She hides like a child,
But she's always a woman to me

She can lead you to love
She can take you or leave you
She can ask for the truth
But she'll never believe you
And she'll take what you give her, as long as it's free
Yeah, she steals like a thief
But she's always a woman to me

CHORUS:
Oh--she takes care of herself
She can wait if she wants
She's ahead of her time
Oh--and she never gives out
And she never gives in
She just changes her mind

And she'll promise you more
Than the Garden of Eden
Then she'll carelessly cut you
And laugh while you're bleedin'
But she'll bring out the best
And the worst you can be
Blame it all on yourself
Cause she's always a woman to me
--Mhmm--

Bridge

CHORUS:
Oh--she takes care of herself
She can wait if she wants
She's ahead of her time
Oh--and she never gives out
And she never gives in
She just changes her mind

She is frequently kind
And she's suddenly cruel
She can do as she pleases
She's nobody's fool
And she can't be convicted
She's earned her degree
And the most she will do
Is throw shadows at you
But she's always a woman to me
--Mhmm--
