The Laughing Fox

Live in a world of suspended amazement...

AHHH!

I DID IT! I DID IT I DID IT I DID IT!!!!! I got it! AHHH!!!! *so happy*

(for more information please IM or call. Too excited to type it all out here.)

Been a while, no?

Eh well. Almost all of you know what's been going on, and that's good enough. So I don't really know why I'm posting this. THe only person that doesn't know what's going on is refusing to talk to me (court's in her hands now, then again, most of you knew that too). So yeah. Right now: sick as hell, spent 7 hours in a parking lot because my car died yesterday, spent about 18 hours in Lenscrafters over the last two weekends, unable to read or see, and wishing someone got over her own damn pride and would talk to me.

Guess she answered my questions though. Like, where I stand. Apparently nowhere.

Thanks Steph, Leigh, Mike, Jordan, Ben M., Ben H., etc... nice to have people to listen and talk to.

Why is someone shooting rockets from right above my room.... I know it's right above my room cuz it's loud, smokey, and I can see the smoke coming from the room down to mine, and it smells like fireworks smoke... ich. I don't want my room blown up.

Oh, and dad got me some cute teddies for V-day. :D

Okay, well, I'll talk to most of you soon. As always, you can catch me online.

Muahahahaha

What kind of Monster are you?

You are a demon. A being of absolute evil, you take the greatest joy not in killing, but in torturing you victims. You love to inflict both physical and psycological pain, and to your victims, death is the easy way out.
Take this quiz!

Ahhh those made me feel a bit better...

People are still incredibly infuriating. I can't believe this people. Seriously. I must have a love of being walked all over the way things are going. I don't know why I even try anymore.

Other news.

Been up till about four each morning this week, working on proposals, abstracts, presentations, 'quizzes', papers, and handouts. Frustrated, very frustrated. I have a second chance to send in a proposal to the USNA History Symposium, due by noon tomorrow. I'm excited. I highly doubt it'll lead anywhere, but I sure as hell hope it does. The proposal for this symposium is the same as what I'm doing for my aerospace studies capstone. I sure hope this works.... Should also know by the end of the month if I'm in the summer scholars program this summer or not.... -prays to anything that's out there- I'd say you'd all be the first to know, but yeah, seeing as how most of you either aren't talking to me or manage to catch me when I'm stressed to the max, you probably won't know for a while, until I get around to posting. Unless your online and speaking to me. Then I'll probably remember to tell you. Yeah I'm a bit bitter right now. Two hours of sleep a day and only two people taking time to listen to me and take stress into consideration does that to a girl. Thanks boys, I needed to yell. Thanks for listening. You know who you are.

(Capstone Proposal)

Proposal Title: Life of Confederate Marines During the American Civil War
Proposed by: (me)

Miami University

I propose to write a scholarly essay over what life was like for a Confederate Marine during the American Civil War. I will explore all aspects of how the Confederate Marines lived and what they achieved during the Civil War. I will use journals from Confederate Marines as well as primary documentation about Marines of the time which are not written by Marines themselves.

Abstract:

Life was different for Confederate States Marine Corps (CSMC) than for their Union counterparts. Unlike their Union counterparts, who had been established since 1798, the CSMC was not established until March 16, 1861, and there were never more than 539 registered CSMC Marines, whereas the United States Marine Corps (USMC) had thousands of men at their disposal throughout the war, having retained many of the Corps that existed before the war. Confederate Marines made less money with longer required enlistment than did any other branch of the military. They often got the last of the goods given to the different branches of the military, and had to overcome obstacles that larger branches did not have to worry about. However, even lacking benefits given to other, larger branches of the Confederate military, the CSMC acquired a reputation for being amazing combatants and excellent at making ends meet. Their uniforms and equipment were different than that of the USMC, trading out the US uniforms and equipment for a more British style and appearance. The USMC first got to prove themselves during the battle of the CSS Virginia against the USS Monitor, and were called to perform many special operations afterwards and throughout the war. Although many records were destroyed after the war, the CSMC continued to retain its reputation as one of the best of the time, even after they were disbanded.

Frustrations

People frustrate me. What is it about getting a significant other that pushes all your old friends away? Why do you push away people you've known one, three, five, eight years longer than you've known your newest infatuation or something? I don't get it. I don't get why it's the girls that push away their older friends as soon as they get a boyfriend. Guys don't seem to do that, so why do girls? How come all the girls I know push me away as soon as they're with the current love of their life, but the guys just act like nothings really different and talk to me same as they used to? Why can't more people be like those guys? I mean, they're there with you side by side when things are going well for you both, and bad for you both. Girls push friends away when things are going well for them - I don't know how they expect people to still be there for them when things go to hell later on. Why should I be there when someone is having a shitty day, when they've pushed me away when things were going well for them? Doesn't make sense why I'd still be around to listen or talk then. I wanna be friends with people when they're happy AND sad, not just when they need that shoulder to lean on. Which I find is what people seem to want me there for. I'm sorry, but I'm just getting hurt one too many times to put up with this any longer. With five of my friends pushing me away as soon as they got a boyfriend, my caring is fading quickly. I mean if you can't make time for me when things are going well on your end, I don't have time to be there for you when it falls apart in front of your eyes. This isn't directed at one or two of you individually, this isn't an attack. But a few of you, I think, know you're the ones adding to my lack of caring. Just think about it from other angles, won't you?

I'm so confused and lost as to what to do. I don't get it; I don't understand. :-\

Oh yeah, and thanks boys, for being there to talk to. When you have a girlfriend and when you don't, when you're happy and when your sad, both.

Woah long time!

Hey y'all, been a while. Been busy with classes and the like. Been getting a lot of grief from professors and faculty about wanting to go to grad school, which is making me dig my heels in deeper. Blah. And I need to pay lacrosse peoples. Grr. Been rather depressed and frustrated lately, with different people and things going on in my life. Some of you know what I'm talking about (well, probably just Mike), others of you really... don't. Maybe cuz Mike's the only one who's taken time to talk with me lately. Thank the stars for our Tues/Thurs lunches. They're keeping me sane.

Below, if anyone's interested, is a rant I just had on my message board for ethics class. Feel free to respond with your own opionions or discussions - just no attacks please. Either on my views or on others. Play nice peoples.

----------------------------------------

So I believe the question for this forum is about whether or not we feel there is or is not a higher moral standard for military personnel, and perhaps whether or not there should be. If I'm completely mistaken and heard that wrong... oh well, it's an interesting topic anyways.

I believe that whether for good or for bad, the American population has the belief that their soldiers should have a higher moral standard than the rest of the Americans. It has come from diplomacy issues and international affairs, and how we are portrayed abroad and with our neighboring nations. The public has come to believe that the people overseas in, for example, Iraq, are the face of Americans nationwide and therefore must put their best foot forward and look and act better than 'typical' Americans. We have come to see soldiers as 'bad' people for making human mistakes. Yes, there are several instances lately where the 'bad' people were most definitely bad people. But other times, there have been simply human mistakes which have been made and the media made a big deal over it due to the fact that soldiers are such visible players in this huge chess game. There the ones that are the most visible and most directly in the media spotlight. From there, the media makes a big fuss if someone is simply human and isn't immortally perfect. No one's perfect. (Sorry guys. I hate to dash some of your hopes.)

Personally I believe that although military personnel have more rules and regulations to follow, and I think for good reason, to demand that they have a higher 'moral' standard is nonsense. You can follow rules without being moral, you can be moral and not follow rules. The good people will be good people with or without the military telling them to be perfect. The unmoral people can follow orders while still not being moral people. As hard as the military can sometimes try, it can't change everything a person learned for the first 18-20 years of their life from friends and family. True people can change, but the majority of people won't change that much, overall.

I think that the course of time has made it difficult for us to understand the foundations our military was based off of: a militia. Simple, every day people. Farmers, carpenters, coopers, lawyers, rebels. Common folk. People could just pick up arms, work together, and fight. There was none of this huge 'higher moral for the military people' because the 'military people' were your next door neighbors who had jobs other than fighting, unless you count the drunks at the pubs.... But our military was based off of common people fighting for a common ideal. Our military now, is just American citizens volunteering their lives to fight for a common ideal. Has it really changed so much? Sure, the military personnel are the people in uniform overseas (and at home, too) that people can pick out of a crowd immediately. Yeah, they need good morals, but not necessarily 'better' or 'higher' morals. Perhaps they have simply kept the same standards from ages past, and the American people have simply degraded in their morals? Could that be the rift between civilian and military? That maybe the 'common' person has lower morals than we used to?

This separation of morals, as it gets ingrained into society, just pushes the military and American populous farther apart. No one side has better or higher moral standards than the other, when it comes down to it. It's just stressed more in the military environment. It's just one more thing to push the military and populous farther apart. I walked into one of my first naval science classes last year and got this look and muted whispers of "Geez, look, it's a civilian". Two years and seven navy classes later (and three AF classes), you know what I've found? There's really no difference. Even when visiting officers drop by, or the officers teaching the classes, or the Midshipmen or Cadets, there's really no huge difference except a greater grasp of government knowledge. I'm no more or less moral than any of the other people here. I've really not seen any Midshipmen or Cadets or officers that seem to have a 'higher moral standard' than every other person I know. They drink underage just as much as other college students. They probably cheat just as much as other college students too - remember that statistic for doctors? Officers like to play pranks just as much as other adults. They have the same trouble and worries as well. They can make bad decisions. So where's the higher moral standard? Heck, where's the different moral standard?

I don't think there is a higher moral standard for military personnel, nor should there be. I believe that if someone does something wrong, they should be punished. Abu Ghraib and the rape cases - yeah, you know, that was stupid and they need to be punished. But on the same note, I don't care if they're military or not. I'd say that prison guards and rapists that aren't in the military need just as harsh a punishment. If the military is the face of the government, they need to stick to good morals, I agree. But if people in other countries are really that interested in seeing what Americans are like, they just need to go online. There are murders and rapes every day. People are letting immigrants, although illegal, to die in the back of an unheated truck and die of overheating and dehydration. Vice President Cheney shoots campaign contributors on quail hunts...

Military people are just normal people with a different profession than other people. When they're home they're just as much a citizen as I am. When they retire, they're citizens again. I think that the 'higher moral standard' has been emphasized by the media, and nothing more.

School

Alright, so I've changed my class schedule about 5 or 6 times since Sunday night. Still isn't finalized. But at the moment I'm liking it.

HEAR YE HEAR YE HEAR YE!

I am currently looking for editors for this semester. The job has wonderful pay, of $0.00 per hour, and if you do a good job, your income will double in the first three weeks!

:-)

In other words, almost all my classes are essay classes, and I'd like people to help edit to make sure they make sense and read well. There are several long essays, from 10-25 pages depending on the class. They're over the military and over history, sometimes both.

-goes on knees-

Steph, I beg you!

Okay. Nuff said. I can beg more to Steph later.

I'm trying to move into Kristin's old room. It's sooo much bigger than mine. Let's see if housing will let me.

I'm in Millett for 9 hours a week again this semester... all the officers are just laughing at me. I'm laughing at me too.

Okay, time for homework.

-one more beg, with puppy eyes-

Jeez! What did I do??

Moved back into the dorm today. Here's a recap of the last few days, including today, thus far.

My hard drive died Friday. I revived it just long enough to save all the information and then it died again. Now have my third hard drive in under two years. GO me.

Everyone at home's been in a bad mood.

Unpacking.

My suitemate is gone. I come back to my room and she's gone. Disappeared. Rumor has it she transferred back out of Miami to Akron, where she was before coming to Miami. Never said goodbye...

What do I do to these people?
Freshman year: Steph. leaves miami.
Sophmore year: Move out of first room, into second room. Suitemates move out shortly thereafter.
Junior year: Kristin. Leaves miami.

Grr.

Stupid needles

Yeah, Leigh... that Steph's a dangerous one. She's getting back at me when three years ago I tried to staple her finger to my whiteboard....

So went and ordered new glasses yesterday, HOPING they'll be in before classes begin. Went to the neuro eye dude, he was cool. Took two hours. Saw a Fellow, Resident, Nurse, and that doctor dude. Says the problem isn't in my eyes, but how my brain is comprehending stuff. More on this later.

Rheumotologist person today, thinks I'm crazy I think, wants me to go see a GI. (Unfortunately, not the GI like GI Joe. I'd be there in an instant then.) However I'm not going into more detail on that ATM.

Most formal conclusions are now being held off by everyone until we get the MRI results back to see if there's anything wrong there. Did that today. I had blood drawn for the first dr., then had radioactive stuff inserted into my arms (three tries later! GRR!) while I tried not to move (which is really hard to do when you hate needles and the inserter person sucks and it hurts and stings) so that they could see how my brain worked. I personally don't think I have anything in there, and if I ever DID have a brain, it exploded during finals last semester. Hmm...

I don't feel good still. Wishing I could talk to certain people in realtime. Ok more later.

It keeps coming!

To Steph: Shut up. I know pinecones are evil. I kept them at a distance. They still bit me.

Leigh: Nope, didn't provoke them any more than I did the evergreen snippets. And they were nice to me. Stupid pinecones.

Today: The scissors bit me. They must be in league with squirrels and pinecones. They are on my list of things to be sued now too.

Still sick, still in the doghouse, still clueless as to why. Tomorrow I'm getting new glasses and going to the neuroopthomologist dude. Joy. Supposedly it's gonna take 2-4 hourse, according to the info they sent us.
